Launch into Boston would like to introduce our wonderful intern, Jimena Ballina. Jimena is currently a student at Boston University, working to graduate in 2011 with a B.S. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. She recently moved to Boston in August of 2009. Her favorite neighborhood is Harvard Square. Jimena's first blog for Launch into Boston is about Beacon Hill.
Beacon Hill Highlights
Beacon Hill holds a unique charm that sets you back in the 19th century with its mostly Federal and Victorian style row houses, brick pathways, and gas lanterns illuminating the streets.
Its prime location allows for easy access to various locations within walking distance of the Beacon Hill area. It also allows for great accessibility to nearly anywhere in Boston via the T. The closest T accessible to Beacon Hill is Park Street with connections to the green, red, and orange lines.
Beacon Hill is the sight of many famous landmarks, including the Massachusetts State House, which is located at the same site where John Hancock’s estate once stood. The area of Beacon Street that is bound between Charles and Park streets holds more attractions, including the Boston Athenaeum and the Bull and Finch Pub that earned its fame on the TV show Cheers. Charles Street, another must-see, has a variety of shopping and dining, from charming antique shops and clothing stores to small, single-owned restaurants, Starbucks, and even a few pubs.
Charles Street is one of my favorite parts of the neighborhood. Beacon Hill has a residential, small-town feel to it, but you can quickly get the feel of a city walking down Charles Street back toward the Common and Public Garden. However, my ultimate favorite experience in Beacon Hill is standing at the top of the hill by the State House and looking at the view of the Common, Public Garden, and Beacon Street all together with the Boston skyline in the background. It's amazing!
