You may have recently read a blog we wrote for Boston World Partnerships (BWP) called “The Top 5 Things You Should Know About Relocating to Boston.” We’ve had the privilege to get to know some of the great team members at BWP and in turn learn a lot more about the many benefits this organization offers to Boston. I recently had a chance to talk with one of BWP’s associates, Paola Mesadieu.
To start with a quick overview, BWP is a non-profit start-up founded by Mayor Menino to help promote the assets and opportunities that Boston offers the national and international business community. BWP connects businesses to Boston and helps them grasp the competitiveness of Boston’s economy. One aspect of the BWP business model is put into action by BWP’s Connectors. BWP Connectors formally commit to volunteering their time, resources and expertise to help attract new businesses to the city, strengthen Boston-based companies, support entrepreneurship, and grow the city’s workforce.
When I asked Paola about the types of inquiries BWP gets, she said they range from small businesses looking for web designers to large companies in search of office space in the Greater Boston area and all things in between. Some of the ways BWP develops relationships is through marketing to concentrated business talent and reaching out to Bostonians abroad via social media outlets like Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. BWP also has many open mixers they offer to foster partnerships with professionals across industries.
This past October BWP hosted an investor relations event at UMASS Boston’s Venture Development Center, where consulate representatives from 18 countries met with BWP Connectors and local business leaders to discuss the growth opportunities that Boston offers to global companies.
I recently attended a BWP event called Rising Stars of Business. At this event, 200 second-year MBA students from over 10 business schools in the Greater Boston area and 100 business leaders and BWP Connectors were invited to an evening of networking. Because of events like this, graduate students are given the exposure to businesses and connectors providing them with the resources to stay and flourish in this city.
For all of our readers and especially those looking for employment opportunities in Boston, this as a great company to keep on your radar. Here is an organization drawing in and nurturing the development of businesses in Boston who will in turn need employees to continue to grow.
We will keep you in the loop with BWP by staying informed about their events, checking out their discussions online and we strongly encourage you to do the same!
